BIO

Anthony Ashenhurst has been practicing healthcare law for over 25 years. He provides counsel to hospitals, physician groups and physician/hospital organizations.


Prior to joining Malecki & Brooks Law Group, Mr. Ashenhurst was a member of the health law practice group in the Chicago office of a large law firm and was previously Assistant General Counsel for UnityPoint Health, one of the largest health systems in the United States.


Mr. Ashenhurst has extensive experience in providing counsel to hospitals in such areas as the Stark Law, the Federal Antikickback Statute, HIPAA, EMTALA, physician issues, medical staff bylaws and credentialing issues.

 
He has experience in resolving employment issues in the health care setting involving employment discrimination, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act as well as employment contracts. He also has experience in negotiating labor agreements for hospitals and has reviewed, drafted and resolved issues relating to employment handbooks. Mr. Ashenhurst has developed and provides on-site training programs which meets the requirements of the Illinois Human Rights Act and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to combat all forms of harassment and disruptive behavior in the healthcare setting.


Mr. Ashenhurst has extensive experience in providing counsel to large behavioral health units and mental health centers relative to issues under the Illinois Mental Health Code and the Illinois Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act.
